Bone Density
Aquatic exercise wards off osteoporosis and helps maintain bone density.
It's never too early to start strengthening your bones, and aquatics is a great way to do it!
Especially if you're a woman!
Most at risk are women who are:
- Oriental or Caucasian - small boned
- Post-menopausal - not menstruating
- Overtrainer - smoker - crash dieter
- Very thin
- Women who don't take enough calcium while pregnant
Exercise is important before the onset of osteoporosis to slow the rate of
bone loss, increase bone strength, grow new bone, and increase efficiency of calcium utilization.
Pushing and pulling limbs through the resistance of the water can assist in building bone density.
The beneficial stress can occur from the muscles contracting forcefully and pulling on the bone.
